Gypsy version 1.6

<IMPORTANT UPDATE>
Development has stopped at version 1.6.
I may re-write it totally, and go on to version 2 sometime, but don't hold your breath. Meanwhile, Ralf Meyer has continued development as "PalGar". Details here and here. I have no links to Ralf, other than wishing him well in his endeavours.
</IMPORTANT UPDATE>

Gypsy is a GPS companion for the 3com Palm Pilot PDA. It talks to Garmin units, and can up- and down-load waypoint files. This makes editing the waypoints far easier than using Garmin’s clever single button. It can also be used as a buffer to transfer route and track information between your GPS and a PC or Macintosh. Gypsy was developed on a Palm III and Garmin II+, and is known to work with a Palm IIIx and Garmin II, III, 12, 12XL. It does not work with the newer eTrex family, but PalGar reportedly does. After reading the documentation, you can download the executable.

If you need assistance connecting your GPS to the Palm Pilot, try looking at http://www.ott-edv.de/pilot/index.htm or http://www.digitalcartography.com/purple.htm.

You can see how I mounted my Garmin II+ in my Landrover here

You can get the source code (compiled with the GCC toolchain) here. However, I ask that if you make any changes, you send them to <paul@frcs.alt.za>. Any ideas are also welcome -- I'll try to incorporate them into future releases.

This software is free, but if you like it, please drop me a line, or send a postcard to
